What is bamboo wallpaper?

Wallpaper made of bamboo is an environmentally friendly and completely natural finishing material, which is made from different parts of the bamboo trunk. The article “breathes”, “is not afraid” of contact with water and is easy to care for. Given the environmental friendliness of bamboo wallpapers, they do not cause allergic reactions and are entirely safe for children.

Types

From the outside of the trunk

Wallpaper is made from the upper (outer) layer of the bamboo stalk. On the wallpaper, the texture and patterns of the trunk are distinguished, joints and structures are visible. Several types are distinguished by surface color: yellow, green, chocolate, and pistachio.

The design is refreshing with turquoise furniture and decor.

From the inside of the trunk

The canvas is obtained as a result of processing the internal parts of the stem. Planks are carefully prepared and polished to get a perfectly flat surface. After processing, the lamellae are fixed on a gauze basis.

Wallpaper from the inside is also divided into types by color: light, dark, wenge. The bright surface is natural, unpainted bamboo.

To obtain a dark color, bamboo is tinted by heating it to 60 degrees. To get a wenge tone, bamboo stalks are painted. Also, the surface may be varnished.

The combination of bamboo with the cane

Bamboo and cane are similar visually but have different characteristics. Cane wallpapers are resistant to light but more vulnerable to moisture. Bamboo and cane can be in the form of different elements or combined in one, alternating lamellas.

How to glue?

Several types of glue are suitable for bamboo wallpapers. Among them, there are glues for ordinary wallpapers which it can to be too weak for this material.

  • The first option is liquid glue, a reliable method, but it has disadvantages in the form of an unpleasant odor and substances harmful to humans.
  • PVA glue can hold the wallpaper, but this will require a lot of effort, as it takes a long time to set. Also, for reliability, it is worth using self-tapping screws or nails.
  • Acrylic glue does not have a direct purpose for bamboo wallpapers, but it copes with them correctly, is safe and easy to use.
  • There is also a special glue that is for bamboo wallpapers and cork.

How to cut?

The material is simply cut across the canvas; a wallpaper or clerical knife will be enough. To separate the roll along, a tool is required, it can be a jigsaw with a saw for metal or a hacksaw for metal.

Step by step instructions

The process of gluing bamboo wallpaper can be divided into several stages.

  • Preparation of material. First, you need to prepare and cut into fragments of the desired size of the canvas.
  • Wall preparation. Surfaces do not require careful preparation since the bamboo cloth masks very well small irregularities. However, you must remove the old wallpaper and plaster.
  • Glue application. Using a spatula, the adhesive is distributed along the wall, and then on the back of the wallpaper. The composition is applied to a dense part of the fabric, paying particular attention to the edges. Within 8-10 minutes, the glue should be absorbed into the surface, after which you can begin gluing.
  • Sticking. A piece of wallpaper is applied to the wall with a slap. After a few minutes, the glue is absorbed, and the wallpaper is pressed against the wall again, ironing with a soft roller in the direction from the ceiling to the floor. Excess adhesive is removed with a rag.

Cleaning and care

The material does not require special and complex attention.

  • In case of dirt and to maintain cleanliness, it is enough to use a damp rag, vacuum cleaner or soft brush.
  • Hard brushes, highly concentrated liquids, and abrasive substances should be avoided.
  • It is convenient to use special detergents made to care for bamboo surfaces.
