High-tech living room: Design and decoration

Knitted tablecloths and embroidered napkins are gradually becoming a thing of the past. Today, the rhythms of a big city dictate their own rules. Most inhabitants of mega-cities exist at a dynamic pace. Therefore, when they return home, they prefer to see practicality and functionality in their interior, above all. These are the hallmarks of the high-tech style.

Style features

This style is characterized by the absence of unnecessary details. All the decoration of the house has its clear objective. For the zoning of the high-tech living room space, decorative glass partitions are used. Sometimes the glass details are decorated with metallic elements.

Inside the high-tech living room regular geometric shapes prevail. It is the kingdom of glass and metal, after which such an interior seems somewhat unrealistic, even cosmic.

For the manufacture of furniture, plastic, glass or metal is often used. At the same time, the furniture itself is state-of-the-art, perhaps even from the collections of fashion designers. The same applies to technology. Here, the large plasma screen of the latest model, a home theater with excellent acoustics, as well as all kinds of gadgets can be suitable.

The peculiarity of this style is that it is also suitable in a large town house and in a small studio.

Despite its modest size, such an apartment should be full of fashionable technical innovations.

Since the kitchen in these apartments is combined in one space with the living room, it must be equipped with the latest technology: an “intelligent” refrigerator with automatic freezing, an induction hob, an oven with automatic cleaning function, etc. It is advisable to remove all kitchen utensils and leave in sight only the few that are really necessary in daily use.

Design of high-tech living room

Since minimalism is characteristic of an elegant hi-tech interior, the decoration of the room should be simple. To diversify the design a bit, you can decorate the room with a kind of reproduction of a modern artist in the style of abstract art. No image of flora and fauna, only clear lines and correct geometry.

Wall and floor

A high-tech living room can be decorated, for example, with decorative panels imitating natural stone or brick. If you prefer wallpaper for the walls, it is better that they are one color, gray or white. You can paste the wallpaper for painting and paint the walls in two colors, no more. At the same time, it is also necessary to maintain a plain scale – no drawings and engravings. For wall decoration, mirror panels are suitable.

If the wallpaper seems too complicated to decorate, you can simply paint the walls with paint. The glossy paint looks very impressive, however, in this case, the walls need to be leveled. They must be perfectly smooth, without irregularities – the chandelier mercilessly highlights the smallest flaws.

As for the floor, ideally, if there is no carpet at all. If the living room has no border with the hallway or is connected to the kitchen, you can zone the space by combining ceramic tiles with other materials, such as laminate or linoleum. Ideally, if both types of flooring have the same pattern, it is best to do without them at all.

Modern industry offers a large number of diverse materials for floors:

  • Porcelain tile looks like a ceramic tile, however, it is more durable. This type of coating is better suited to the living room of a private mansion than to a city apartment.
  • Loose floors have recently become a fashion trend. The undeniable advantage of such a coating is that it does not leave joints. The surface is perfectly smooth and uniform. There are many designs of loose floors. For a minimalist style living room, it is best to choose solid colors.

If you want a creative design, you can darken the floor, as opposed to light walls. And to soften the decoration cold a bit, you can throw a small short-pile rug with a soft geometric ornament on the floor near the armchair or sofa.

If the floor coverings above seem too expensive, you can put the discreet linoleum on the floor. It is also suitable for the style described.

Ceiling

Since the high-tech style involves the use of modern “twists”, it would be wise to create a stretch ceiling in the living room. The glossy multi-level coating with integrated backlight is very impressive. When reflected on a shiny surface, the light becomes twice as intense.

Various models of gypsum plasterboard also work well with a high-tech stretch ceiling. Another good option for decorating the ceiling of the minimalist living room is simply to paint it in one color and complete it with metal bars.

The lighting

Needless to say, the right lighting can completely change the perception of the interior of the room. The light in the living room is particularly important: it is the main room in which we gather as a family and where we receive guests. Therefore, it should be the pride of the owners. Its vocation is to surprise.

Light can be present not only as a luminaire, but also as a key element of furniture and various interior elements.

For a high-tech style living room, a central chandelier is not typical. In this case, devices with a shiny chrome surface will be suitable. They can be point or hidden lights (bulbs integrated into a surface), or sophisticated hinged structures fitted with a light dimmer or a control panel. Projectors can be present everywhere: inside cupboards, on the perimeter of mirrors, in a counter and even on the perimeter of the floor.

Hi-Tech luminaires can also be exterior. In addition, they are made not only of metal, but also of plastic. Glassware is not uncommon among them. In addition, they can take different forms: a ball or cone, a cube or a trapezoid. At the same time, there is also a place for beauty, and some items can be decorated with rhinestones and crystals. However, such pleasure is not cheap.

If you still prefer only one central lighting, you can choose a lighting device on tires or cords.

With the help of lighting, you can zone the room. Above the sofa area, you can hang chrome sconces from a metal beam, which can be oriented in any direction. And the plasma can be effectively lit from behind, so that the light seems to come from inside and scatter in all directions.

The furniture

For your living room to correspond to the direction of design, it is necessary that the furniture is also associated with the general decor. For this it is necessary that its parts are made of the same material as everything else. In a hi-tech style living room, you can put a coffee table on wheels with a glass top. If the living room is both a dining room, you can set up a bar and buy chairs on an openwork metal support.

Swivel plastic seats, modular sofas and various built-in structures will also work. For storage, a shelf with a plastic case and glass shelves is suitable. For a small living room, furniture from a transformer cabinet will be particularly suitable. The bar counter is cleaned and transformed into a kitchen table, the bed is folded and transformed into a sofa for social gatherings, and it is practical to hide a vacuum cleaner in a pouffe on casters.

If the living room is supposed to have a wardrobe, it’s good if it’s a wardrobe all along the wall. At the same time, it is desirable that it be a whole with the wall and, if possible, that it merge with it.

Textile

Since the whole hi-tech space has to be kept in soft colors, you can slightly dilute the interior by adding a few bright touches. For example, in black and white wall decoration, you can add a sofa or chairs with red upholstery. The gray wallpapers are in good harmony with the lilac and mauve colors. However, you must follow the same rule – all colors should be cool shades and, if possible, simple.

The interior of the high-tech living room does not imply the presence of natural materials, artificial leather can be safely used as a covering.

The design of the curtains on the eaves can be changed with decorative details – smooth sensors in the form of white or yellow metal rings. Ideally, if they repeat the color and design of the ledge on which they stand.

Curtains should be simple and concise – no creases, drapery, or ruffles. Ideally, if it will be roller shutters. Their care is minimal and the dust is deposited much less than on the sheer. Even better, you need to buy an automatic mechanism with which you can raise and lower the curtains from a distance. It is completely in the spirit of techno.

For windows it is better to choose hard fabrics with various impregnations – with a reflective, anti-fouling and water-repellent effect, as well as against dust. These properties generally have a synthetic material. However, you can use fabrics with mixed fibers, but such that they have a dense and heavy texture like linen and satin.

Modern technologies make it possible to add artificial fibers to natural fibers, thus obtaining a new generation of fabric with improved performance. Such curtains hold their shape well.

Fine examples and new features

Despite the apparent exterior simplicity and the absence of all that is superfluous, it is quite difficult to design a hi-tech living room space, since the accommodation must be comfortable, first of all. In this interior, there is a taboo on all these cute little things that give the room a warm atmosphere and the comfort of home.

However, here you can experiment with the decor and slightly dilute the asketicity of the hi-tech interior:

  • The basic colors of this style are considered to be white, gray, black, brown and beige. However, there are exceptions to any rule and you can let your imagination run wild here. For example, you can zone the living room with the ceiling. In addition, it can be not only several levels, but also several colors. For example, the main gamma of the room is white and, above the sofa, you can create a patch in olive or silver.
  • If the living room is at the same time a bedroom, the bed itself can be placed on the podium, along the perimeter of which one lets in LED lighting. To reduce the cold of the decoration, you can divide the room into zones using a curtain. This is not entirely in line with the classic understanding of high technology, but certain freedoms may be allowed in a living room.
  • The monogamy of the walls can be diversified with posters in the spirit of surrealism or black and white photographs. In addition, they should be framed in metal frames or not at all. Murals on the theme of the metropolis are authorized, as well as all images in avant-garde style.
  • The deep blue is in harmony with the metallic and, as you know, it calms and soothes. If you add soft blue lighting to the interior, the living room will immediately cease to be faceless and will be filled with the warmth and comfort necessary for all. In addition to this lighting, you can think of chairs with blue plastic seats, a sofa and armchairs with blue upholstery or blinds.
  • The plants also provide additional comfort to a discreet interior. However, in the case of high technology, they should in no case be curly or blooming, such as roses or violets. Decorate the living room with a palm tree, place a cactus near the computer.

In summary, we can conclude that any interior can be made comfortable if you approach the problem creatively.
