How to hang curtains on corner windows: practical tips and solutions

Different types of windows bring different types of aspects we have to deal with when it comes to curtains. They are not limited only to the choice of the window treatment but also to the process of hanging the curtains, which is exactly what we are going to tackle here.

Of course, we are not going to tell you how are the curtains hung on all types of windows. Today, we will stop at the corner windows. They do not seem to be met often, but when there is the case, they bring a lot of problems to your mind, and we are here to solve them. Get prepared, and let’s get an insight into what a two-step solution in this sense would look like.

1st step: things to consider in advance

Before deciding upon the way you could hang curtains on your corner windows, there are some things that have to be clarified in advance. The common corner windows are usually placed at the same distance from the actual corner and have identical sizes. We hope it is the same in your case.

Therefore, relying on the type of window and curtains (size, color, function), you can pick the color of the rods and fixture appliances. For instance, if you would like to open and close your curtains easily, you will have to use fixture holes to hang them on the rod as they will make it possible to perform this action.

When it comes to the types of rods, this is when it gets interesting. Don’t worry. We got your back. Stay with us, and you will see how easy you can find a solution, which in this case refers to the curtain rods for the corner windows.

2nd step: corner curtains connectors – where & how

You definitely need a special corner curtain rod if you want to make this work. In this sense, you could go two ways:

  • buy a corner curtains rod that is particularly for this type of window treatment;
  • adapt the standard curtains rods to this particular situation.

You are probably wondering how this is possible. It is, and even easier than you thought. All you need to do is add a little detail in the direct sense, as this problem can be solved with a small appliance. Of course, we will tell you what you have to do:

  • To make sure that your curtains are hung appropriately on a corner window, you have to fix two standard rods at the same height over each window frame. Don’t forget to leave space between the edges of the rods and between them and the wall to be sure that a small appliance will fit in there.
  • When it comes to the appliance itself, we suggest you go to any store that has a plumbing section and buy a plastic corner piece of the size and color you need. You will have to use it to put together the two rods you already have.
  • When you have all the necessary pieces, all you have to do is put them together. You have to enter the edges of the rods into the plastic elbow holes from each part. This little appliance will work as a connection point between the two rods.

It should be noted that there is a high probability that something might not go according to the plan. This is why we suggest you take the necessary measurements before fixing the rods on the wall and buying the appliance. You have to make sure that the distance between the two rods is appropriate so that the plastic elbow fits perfectly as well as the rod edges fit into the appliance itself.

Corner curtains rods

If you still want to use the curtain rods that are ready-made for the corner window treatment, we are ready to assist you in this sense as well. We would like to draw your attention to the common ways of hanging corner curtains:

  • using an elbow connector to connect two standard rods;
  • using a two-pieces elbow connector;
  • using a one-piece corner curtain rod.

Alternative options for corner windows curtains

If you have not found a suitable solution to this problem yet, we are happy to provide you with alternative options that have nothing to do with appliances or extra involvement. All you have to do is apply our suggestions to your situation and, if needed, include a few changes. You could go two ways in this sense:

  • If you have two corner windows, which could have identical or different sizes, you have to use two different rods. In this case, there is no need to use a connector. Just make sure that there is a distance in the corner between the edges of both rods. There is one more thing to be added: fix the rods considerably high above the windows frame. This will make your walls look taller and will shape the appearance of the room. All you have to do now is hang the curtains on special rings to the rods from both sides for each window in part.
  • If your corner windows are actually of different sizes, here is what you can do: follow the same steps as in the previous case. That’s not all. We will play a little bit of magic. You will also have to add window shades for each window in part. Here is how you do that: hang them at the same height above the windows frame even though the windows are of different sizes. Therefore, they will cover the left space, and it will seem that the windows are actually of the same size.
