Stylish cookbook display and storage ideas in your kitchen

Today, thousands of new ideas are available to food lovers thanks to the Internet: it seems that there is no such recipe that cannot be found on the world wide web. And yet, it would be rash to believe that cookbooks are no longer relevant today: as large book chains note, the demand for the literature of this kind is still high – and there is an utterly logical justification for this.

Firstly, it is much more convenient to keep a cookbook in front of your eyes while preparing food than a laptop, tablet, or smartphone. Secondly, collecting such sources of recipes becomes a kind of treasure chest and a sign of excellence for the lovers of cooking. Finally, modern editions of cookbooks are distinguished by colorful and bright designs, which turns them into an interior accessory. So, we have found almost all the arguments in favor of cookbooks: it remains only to decide how to store them in the kitchen properly.

Putting cookbooks in the kitchen: important rules

Indeed, placing cookbooks in the kitchen is the most logical solution. However, many people still keep them in the living room or home library simply because there is no room for them in the kitchen. In fact, this problem is relatively easy to solve since designers offer many ways to fit them into such an interior. The most important thing is to comply with the following conditions:

  • Exclude moisture. Needless to say, water and paper are incompatible. Try to find a corner that is not accessible to either splashing water or high humidity to keep your favorite editions.
  • Completely eliminate the risk of fire. Keeping cookbooks next to the stove is also not a good idea – and, one might say, a fire hazard, so it is best to place them as far away from it as possible. An exception can be made only by modern induction cookers. However, it is worth taking care that the book does not accidentally fall on the hob in this case.
  • Convenience. If you quickly find the book you need and easily put it back in place, you have found the most suitable place for your cookbook. Ideally, you should immediately see all the editions that you have.

As you can see, in the case of storing cookbooks in the kitchen, you need to find a balance between comfort and safety. We bring to your attention a few relevant ideas – perhaps they will inspire you.

Cookbook shelf: flexible traditions

The bookshelf is the most natural location for any literature, and recipe books are no exception. Depending on the size and layout of your kitchen, you can try the following options for placing cookbook shelves:

  • In a free corner of the kitchen. Here you can make both simple hinged shelves and equip them with sliding glass or blank doors.
  • Use a free kitchen cabinet. Of course, not all housewives have such a thing, but if you are the happy owners of a vast kitchen set, then you can surely be able to allocate part of the section for your favorite cookbooks. Here you can not only keep them safe but also arrange them in convenient order for you.
  • Use the kitchen island! Designers say: it’s hard to come up with a better place for cookbooks in a modern interior. Under the island’s countertop, you can arrange as many niches as you like, including collections of recipes. You can leave them open or hide them behind glass or wood doors.

Finally, if your kitchen is big enough, you can take the path of least resistance and simply buy a narrow cookbook rack. It will not take up much space and, at the same time, will accommodate your entire collection.

Unique ideas for storing cookbooks in the kitchen

If there is no space for shelves in your kitchen or there is not enough space on it, then you can call your imagination to help. Just offhand, you can recall a few creative ideas already proposed once by designers and resourceful cooks:

  • a wire basket on the countertop;
  • office or wooden boxes, including those similar to filing cabinets (you can add a vintage charm to them with decoupage and paint);
  • stands for cakes;
  • hanging fabric pockets on the wall (you can sew it yourself!).

The desire to keep your cookbooks close at hand while cooking and looking for inspiration at the stove is easy enough. Rationally using every free corner and resorting to unusual and ergonomic solutions, you will not only create conditions for the availability of your library of recipes but also make it a wonderful interior accent.
